This is the major annual Sports Flying Exhibition in the UK,which includes light and microlight aircraft, paramotors, paragliders, gyrocopters, and the new class of de-regulated flying machines - together with many associated interests.
Mike and Jane are Microlight and Ultralight pilots who got involved with X-sailing this Spring. After falling in love with it themselves they have spent the rest of the year spreading the gospel amongst the light aviation world, attending Air Shows, exhibitions and fly-ins around the UK. The X-sail is the ideal toy for anyone with the use of an airfield, and whose normal sport is cut-short when the wind is strong. The X-sail Flyers are a growing happy band, with a tremendous knowledge of airfields, dis-used or otherwise. If you live in the Midlands or North of England it would be worth picking their brains, or even arranging to join them the next time they're out for a play. Email them. X-sail Raid in England - Elvington Airfield - Sunday 26th October 2008 York Land Yacht Club are hosting an Open Day Fun Sail at their fantastic airfield, and X-sail pilot Lou Radcliffe would like to invite everyone along for some racing and challenges. The sailing will be between 10.00 hrs and 16.00 hrs, and is obviously dependent on the wind being good.
It's very important that everyone who intends
coming along phones in BEFORE setting off in the morning to check that
the day is going ahead - Phone Mike - before 8.00 hrs. The airfield is huge, doesn't require as much wind as a beach and is a lot of fun, and you could even chat to the club about joining up and going along regularly. You can email Lou to find out more about the day, or about the club in general, and x-sailing in the area. Check the airfield out here. There is a £10 sailing fee to cover airfield rental and insurance. Elvington is a brilliant venue wind permitting, just drive onto the airfield park up, build up & sail off.
X-sail Raid - Fun in France - 25/26th October 2008 X-sailers are preparing for a weekend of fun, challenges and races at the fantastic beaches on the North coast of France. It's open to all comers, even those who are not yet lucky enough to pilot an X-sail of their own yet. X-sailers are coming from far and wide - Scotland, Belgium, Netherlands, Germany and of course France, and it looks likely that the enthusiasm on the beach will spill over into the events in the evening. Bonhomie is an integral component of the X-sail Philosophy. The challenges begin at 11am on Saturday 25th October at Merlimont, in Nord Picardie. The beaches of Le Touquet, Berck and the Bay of the Somme will all play host to the X-sail Raiders on their adventures over the weekend.
